Sunday, 14. June 2026
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
