Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
