Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he liked taking part in different card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he played many hours and lose most times. He earned some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus even more on poker.
The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often wager against one another. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
