Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he liked playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he would play countless hours and do not win most times. He earned some extra money by being an runner for the poker players. He judged he could improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and concentrate more on poker.

The real improvement in his abilities happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often play against each other. He had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker world today. Howard headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
