Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
