Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
