Omaha Hi-Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where some players often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same concept in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
Although it seems difficult at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi lo offers an exciting assortment of wagering choices and because you have several players battling for the high, along with a few battling for the low. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
