Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved taking part in various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were tough as he played many hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He believed he might better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on the game.
The definite advancement in his game began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often wager against one another. He was able to access a few of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
