Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved betting on different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and headed to New York to play some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and concentrate more on the game.

The real advancement in his skills began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly wager against each other. He was able to access some of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his logical thinking techniques. He used these strategic ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
