Hiding Tells

Do you ever receive that itch? The itch to wager, to head to the closest gambling establishment, to come across a good stakes game of Texas hold em, to sit at a Pontoon table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I love to scratch it.
I also love to watch individuals gamble. No 2 poker faces seem similar. When I bet I like to consider I put on a poker face which is impenetrable. Except I know I have particular gestures. For one, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I play poker or Twenty-one. And then I chain smoke. But I chain smoke no matter whether I am succeeding or losing, whether or not I have a very good hand or bad.
I once played within a weekly poker game. The casino game was constantly 5 card draw. There was a guy who played with us every week who constantly wore a hat. When he was given a excellent hand, subconsciously, he would begin touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he by no means won.
The greatest poker gambler I ever saw was a guy who manufactured much more actions and gestures at a poker table than anybody I had ever seen. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Always an high priced suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was always brushing his pants or holding his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.
I use to examine him for hours. I would attempt to see if I could notice his tell. Picking lint off his vest- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a beneficial hand?
Many years later I bumped into him in a bar in Chi town and we had a beverage. I asked him if he had been aware of all those movements he created or if they had been subconscious. He informed me that each and every individual thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is usually checking out everybody else’s poker face. They are attempting to detect the the tell.
So his technique was to provide them lots to feel about. His reasoning was if they had been pondering about him picking a piece of lint off his coat and what it meant they positive were not pondering about their cards.
His technique was diversion. And it worked for him. Never give up a technique that functions for you.
