Stu Ungar is considered by most to the greatest NL Holdem Poker gambler ever.
The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and started playing poker prior to reaching his teens.
The young bettor started out wagering gin and at the age of 10 had won his very first gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the little poker genius had become a pro and dropped out of school.
In ‘54 Stu entered the history books by winning 10 grand in a gin tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still stands in New York these days.
The quick speaking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic superstars like Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu had a real ability for betting poker but regardless of his achievements in Hold’em poker, he preferred playing gin.
Stu once said that there may a few day be a far better NL Hold em gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a improved gin player.
In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the very best Holdem Poker players in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the 1st time. Amazingly it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.
The right after year he dismissed any suggestions that it had been luck, by successfully defending his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker legend also battled with substance abuse and a year after succeeding his 3rd title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had passed away from a heart attack which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had began with practically nothing but his ability and natural talent for the game which made this poker good a millionaire several times over.
