Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
